Biography

Music is something most people just listen to, La La lives in her music. If it wasn’t for music, she wouldn’t know Christ. Award winning artist, LaShawn Batiste a.k.a. Lil La La was born September 14, 1979. Growing up in a family of musicians, La La was bound to grow and be successful in music. At the young age of nine, this child walked to the altar alone and asked to be saved. At the tender age of 13 La La began playing piano, by age 15 she was on the drums, then at 18 began writing rhymes. She's always been very poetic and rhyming off the top of her head, but God had bigger plans. La La has gone through so much in her life. Dealing with self-esteem issues, feeling like she was ugly, and had a hard time having friends because she was so different. La La knew she was chosen for a special deed. La La’s desire is to Inspire & Educate young people not only on the Gospel, but also in life. La La grew up very fast. Her mother, raised her, her older brother (Steven), younger brothers William & Jeffrey (also known as JROC), and foster sister Teri alone in a small 3 bedroom house. “She worked three jobs just to make ends meet… I’m thankful for my past, happy with the present and looking forward to the future…” – La La On April 12, 2003 Lil La La dropped her first album "The Forgiven One." This album was nominated and won “Best Independent Gospel Album of the Year in Washington DC. (UIMA) Since her first album did so well, she knew this was her calling. I have fun songs that will have you dancing, but when I'm on stage, I rather have you listen to the words and really meditate on what is being said. I think thats where so many artist fall off and lose track is because they get so wrapped up in making the crowd move that the truth is not coming across to the listeners...You have to get down on folks level. If your rappin’ and not talking about nothing, it’s a waste cuz it’s a rap no one will remember…so keep it real and make it deep.
