Correy D. McClure AKA H.O.O.D. was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. McClure’s performance name H.O.O.D means the Highest Order of Discipline which is learning to wait on God. He started rhyming by the age of 10 and by the age of 13 he was performing in different groups and talent shows.
While a student at West Charlotte High School, H.O.O.D. got his first chance at the national spotlight in 1991 on the John P. Kee and Friends recording of “We Shall Overcome”. From that point McClure continued to perform in groups and travel with stage plays as a stage hand and was often a backup actor. His stage credits include “Trouble Don’t Last Always” by the late Tyrone Gooding Sr. and David Payton’s “When A Woman’s Fed Up”. Payton is also known for the hit play “A Good Man Is Hard To Find”.
In 2000 McClure became tired of the theatre scene and the drama that usually followed. After a brief conversation with Pastor Kee he was offered a job as an assistant to his Sound Engineer Brian “Bop” Smart. He was also placed in charge of making sure the monitor mix was acceptable for Pastor Kee and the musicians, cleaning the bus, help carry and breakdown equipment and whatever else needed to be done to make the road trips happen.
In August 2005 Correy suffered several mini strokes on both sides of his brain and had open heart surgery to repair a damaged heart valve. The recovery was nothing short of a miracle from GOD himself. Recently, In January 2009 he was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and is very active in the education of Diabetes to young children and adults.
Correy McClure/H.O.O.D. is the founder and CEO of the Urban Inspirational Awards, formerly known as the Carolinas Holy Hip Hop Achievement Awards, which builds awareness in the community about the positive Hip-Hop Movement. The name changed this year because H.O.O.D. says “I wanted to not only promote Christian rap music and give awards to the artist, but I wanted to give out awards to people who seeded into my life & community leaders/activists who are doing things to clean up the inner city neighborhood's from drugs, guns and gang activity” and in addition, “We are taking a solid stand against violence and vulgar lyrics towards women and other artists.” He encourages the community to help educate the public with positive faith based hip-hop music and its stand against: guns, drugs, violence, street gangs, prostitution and other crimes. The UIA will not only honor our recording artists, but also community leaders and their efforts to better our community. He says, "We realize that not every kid is going to college, so we want to equip them with the proper life skills and the necessary tools to survive in today's society”.
Correy is married to Latonia McClure and they are the proud parents of LoLa (1
, Santana (13), Correy, JR (11), Keenan (10) and Makaylah (7). When he is not in the studio or promoting his artist showcase he is Husband, Daddy and Partaker at New Life Fellowship Church.
